“Cinema is an art applied to industry. Without industry it could not live, just as it could not live without technology and effective distribution. All elements that constitute a process of production and exploitation that needs capital and market.” – Mario Monicelli
Last weekend, on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May, the students of the workshop Ethnographic Filmmaking. Training and Memory – II Edition, met film producer Alessandro Bonifazi for a full immersion in the area of Production: where creativity meets industry.
During the two meetings, the trainer went through the stages from the preparation to the distribution of a film, passing through fundraising, the meticulous team dynamics that the set requires and the organisation of post-production based on the film’s destination. The dialogue between the trainer and the students took place from Alessandro’s long professional experience working on numerous feature films, including Beket (2008), Ritratto di mio padre (2010) and Sul Vulcano (2014).
Talking about the stages that make up the production process in the film industry, the trainer explained to the team the basic tools used, from the budget to the financial plan. Among these, the working plan will be a valuable resource for the guys, in view of the shoot to be organised.
