The workshop “Ethnographic Filmmaking. Training and Memory” has started again for its second edition. In the first two meetings, about Research and Ideation, our coordinator and trainer Parsifal Reparato introduced the working group to the methodologies of ethnographic research. Writing a field diary is a fundamental step in the process of devising an ethnographic documentary, a moment that originates pages full of insights and ideas.
The working group then discussed their first interactions with the research field: the eastern quadrant of Rome.
The trainer also shared with the students his own experience in conceiving and producing his ethnographic documentary “Nimble Fingers” (2018). Watching it together was an opportunity for dialogue about the different stages, and also the difficulties, faced in the journey of documentary filmmaking.
The ideas that emerged are many and varied. We are curious to find out where they will take us!
