Āmarā, by Giulia D’Elia, finalist at the SàFF Sanità Film Festival

Āmarā – Notes for an Ethnographic Documentary, directed by Giulia D’Elia, is in official selection and finalist at the SàFF – Sanità Film Festival. Sàaf is a festival dedicated to communitarian cinema.

Āmarā is a documentary made as part of the 2022 edition of the Ethnographic Filmmaking workshop, we are proud of the journey made by this documentary and the director, they are seeds of hope for a participatory, lower class cinema!
The documentary recounts the eviction of an association that for years symbolised the cultural integration of the Tor Pignattara neighbourhood in Rome. While activists fill the squares dealing with the effects of urban gentrification, the Bangladeshi community, deprived of a space, struggles to preserve sociality and community sharing.

Congratulations to Giulia D’Elia and all the crew who collaborated on this project!
The festival will take place from 1 to 5 July in Naples, at the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena ai Cristallini and the adjacent Ex Mendicomio Complex, transformed into a real community cinema, thanks to the initiative realised by Apogeo ETS and Fondazione di Comunità San Gennaro.
